Learn How To Fly Press Metal and Create Unique Die Moulds -NEW

Want to learn how to create your own unique three dimensional domed shapes that are hollow inside, then this workshop is perfect for you.

We have a new exciting tool in our jewellery studio, which is a hydraulic press and we are very excited to be sharing this brand new workshop with you all.

We will start the workshop by learning how a hydraulic press works. Emily will demonstrate the process using one of her own moulds which will likely be a leaf form. She will place a sheet of annealed copper onto the surface of the die mould followed by a rubber sheet and gently press down the hydraulic press to create a domed leaf shape. You will then all get the chance to have a go using the hydraulic press yourself, firstly with one of Emily’s pre made shapes.

Once you have learnt the process of how the press works, we will then create our own moulds using plexiglass. We will draw our shapes onto the plexli glass and then use a jewellery saw to cut the shapes out.

In the afternoon you will be able to use your own moulds to create your own unique domed shapes.

We can then explore adding texture onto these.

This workshop is purely technique based. We can create our metal domed shapes into pendants or earrings in this workshop, however it would be better to focus on creating another mould and really get to grips with the fly process technique.

We will be working in sheet copper and silver. Additional silver can also be purchased.

Materials and tools are included in this workshop.
