Agate and Ayre

Founder of Agate and Ayre, April Hay has a true passion for geology, and as soon as we discovered her work we just had to introduce it into the gallery. We absolutely love the connection between the jewellery we sell and April’s inspiration. 

We love the way April creates texture, colour and tactility throughout her work capturing microscopic details of stones that are hard objects and creating a soft warm object from this inspiration.

During her final year at Gray’s School of Art, she began capturing images of geological sites around Scotland. She started to  photograph rock textures at every angle and scale. ​

She then layer these images on photoshop, creating artworks, playing with dramatic contrast and bold compositions. She love’s the dark and moody colour palettes, and the Scottish landscape is the perfect muse. Rich jewel tones and earthy greens sit alongside inky blues and teals.

Working mostly with natural fibres such as silk and bamboo, my fabrics are digitally printed using environmentally conscious inks. She then sew’s fabrics, crafting pieces for  your wardrobe.
