Learn the ancient jewellery technique Cuttlefish Casting with Ciara Bowles

Learn the fascinating process behind the ancient technique of cuttlefish casting with myself Emily Knight and Ciara Bowles.

You will learn how to carve into the soft multiple layers of bone found in the cuttlefish, and also press found objects into the cuttlefish. The cuttlefish creates beautiful organic lines in each object you create allowing any organic shape to work well.

This is a workshop which is designed for purely experimenting how you can create silver objects out of the natural material cuttlefish. We will create a number of silver objects throughout the day which then can be used as charms.

The natural bone cuttlefish can withstand high temperatures so we will be melting silver scarp metal into the cast to create our carved objects.

You will learn how to carve into cuttlefish, and how to melt scraps metal and pour this into a mould.

This workshop is designed for intermediate level jewellers so we recommend having some jewellery experience before booking onto this workshop.
