Learn how to Engrave, Texture and Enamel On Silver With Heather Larson

In this two day workshop with enameller Heather Larson you will learn the techniques used in basse taille and champlevé enamelling.

About the tutor:
Heather Larson is a Craftsman of the Guild of Enamellers and has exhibited her work with the British Society of Enamellers. She specialises in champlevé enamelling and teaches at the Jewellery and Silver Society of Oxford.
Day One

The emphasis of day one is experimenting with different ways to texture silver that are suitable for enamelling. This will include using burrs, textured hammers, punches or stamps, and hand engraving. You will learn how to set up and sharpen gravers, how to use engraving tools safely, and will engrave one or more pieces of silver for enamelling.

In the afternoon of day one, you will learn how to prepare enamels for wet laying and will select your colours for your work on day two.

Day Two
On day two, you will learn how to wet lay enamel, prepare your enamel samples and learn about the different stages of firing using a kiln.
Once you are happy with your design, Heather will guide you through the stages of enamelling your project piece, stoning back and finishing the enamel, and polishing.

This workshop is for people with Enamelling and previous jewellery experience as the techniques are challenging.

You will create a brooch or a pendant of your choice as well as a series of enamelled examples.

All lunch and Materials are provided on this workshop.
