Emily Stubbs

We are really pleased to be welcoming Emily Stubbs work into the gallery for our spring reflections exhibition. Emily studied at Batley School of Art and Design and then went on to study at the University of Wales. Since graduating she has continued to develop her ceramic practice and has helped set up PICA studios.

Through her work she explores the playful relationship between form and surface decoration. The vessel is her primary interest, created by building and collaging slabs of textured clay together. Drawing inspiration from her 2D paper collages and sketches, she translates this process into clay, building up upon layer of slips and glazes. The finished vessels have a similar graphic quality to them, with bold colour, strong line and intuitive mark making.
